Sustainable Product Principles

Create principles that guide the product decisions of your team. Understand the areas you need to cover and start developing your own set of principles.

Building more sustainable digital products requires product, design, development and infrastructure teams to work in one direction. While they need a sustainability strategy to follow, this strategy cannot be so specific that it gives orientations for all the hundreds of decisions team members take daily.

Sustainability principles are a powerful instrument to bridge product strategy and daily product work. Similar to Leadership principles or Circular Design Principles, Sustainable Product Principles convey the approach of an organisation to sustainability. This provides all team members with guard rails for their daily work. Yet, principles allow for freedom to translate them to the situation at hand.
